As a beginner to the bodhran, what are the standard "must know" session tunes that I should get familiar with? Are there any tunes that are almost guaranteed to pop up at a session?

Tunes tend to group themselves according to regions and communities. Your best bet is to find a publicised "open to the public" session. Often times such sessions will have a web site listing of tunes. Most often this is the case for a beginners session or a "slow session." I'd inquire at one of these before jaunting off to the nearest pub session and giving them the twenty questions.

Sessions are finicky. Every one is different in small and sometimes important ways.

Were I to give you the list of "the top 50 tunes" played at the sessions I attend, I might name between one to twenty that would actually be valid wherever you are....

Would it be useful for me create a section in the music box for session tunes? We could build up quite a stock of useful material along with which bodhran players can practise.

The recordings could come from our own public sessions so there should be no copyright issues but it would be appropriate to ask the other musicians if they have any objections.

We can also create a section in bodhran.tv for videos from sessions that appear on the various 'tubes' out there.

It's a pretty common question on most ITM groups and fora and given that we have the facility it seems like a reasonable and useful service to provide.
