As you will know from the recent announcement, I have created a scholarship in Paul Phillips' name to carry forward and develop his teaching.

The scholarship is overtly aimed at the next generation of players, those who will continue the development of the instrument into virtuosity.

The scholarship is based around bringing these young players to the best bodhran players and teachers available, it will also include the provision of a drum if funds allow for that.

This is a transatlantic scholarship and will be enacted in both Ireland/Europe and in the USA.

Currently plans are afoot to start generating funds through tribute concerts, compilation CDs and in the New Year we will be recording a tribute CD made by those who knew and played with Paul.

The money raised by such events and articles will pay for the transport and accommodation of the young players and chaperones to the teacher or if feasible to have a weekend and bring everyone together in one place.

Initially the teachers have all offered their time for free and a number of drum makers have offered to donate instruments. Because this is an annual award it may be that these may have to be purchased from the scholarship fund in future years

A committee is to be formed to bring organisation and transparency to the scholarship and we currently are looking for a small number of volunteer committee members who knew Paul are are willing to help bring the project together and make it a reality.
