Paul Phillips Video 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 34  
Hey all,

I have put up a Paul Phillips Video on bodhran.tv. It was taken in July last year in Tullamore (iirc) at the Fleadh and was broadcast last week on RTE.

It's one of the best examples of Paul's playing that I have seen, listen carefully and you can hear his signature drag rolls.

The look on his face and wee yelp at the end make me very happy.

Class playing, such a great loss to us all. I heard the yelp, I think he enjoyed that set alright!

It's nice to have this live memory of good old Paul Phillips! Flashes of his teaching and playing with Brian Hughes at the Tubbercurry Summer School 2007 come back to my mind. Thanks for posting!

I have just started to attempt the 'top end' method of playing after five years of Kerry style playing. In your comment you say that his style is unususl. Could you please elaborate on why you think his syle is unusual.

Hi Wigwail,

The reson I think it is unusual is because I have
never seen anyone play like that before..

Most styles I have seen involve using the bottom of
the drum for base - playing below the hand for this.
Paul seems to play almost completely up the top of
the drum only coming down to the mid-section for base.
He still seems to get quite a wide range while using
such little space on his bodhran.
