Hey Kip,

it's not normally a problem however the comma in a link is taken as a non-url character and it breaks it, making the second part of the link inactive

I added a few posts illustrating how to add video, images and hyperlinks to members posts - they are stickies in the bodhran site forum.

Thanks for contributing so much Kip, I think we all are reaping the benefits of your participation.

Cheers

P

I'm just starting out, but the Kerry style seems SO much more natural for me...at least for now. I'm trying to work a little of the top end technique in here and there, but the movements just seem so much easier with the Kerry.

But I suppose that suits me well since I got into the Bodhran for the TRADITIONAL aspects of it. I don't plan on being one of these crazy great soloists...just love Irish trad music and I want to be a part of making a great sound.

I agree about how natural Kerry style feels. I use triplets often enough that I miss them when I'm playing top end style (for which style I'm a beginner, too).

Last night at our weekly session, I let a friend borrow a Tipper that's meant for top end style. He had never tried top end style, so he resorted to playing it Kerry style. I showed him how to hold it, and he tried again. He definitely felt it was unnatural, but then again, we've both been playing Kerry style all this time.

Hey Guys,

I'm at pains to stress that Top End or Kerry are not better or worse than each other, just different. At the end of the day it's about getting the sounds from the drum in your hands that fit with the music. Although 'top end' is more contemporary being a relatively recent technique, it's not really about being un/traditional because you can play traditionally using either style.

I view Top End or Kerry Techniques as simply tools in the toolbox. The more tools you have the more options you have. There are things that are more readily achievable with either of the 'styles' and therefore for the sake of completeness it is useful to have experience of both in case you need one rather than the other.

Personally I'm just a technique-expansion junkie, that's my excuse :)
