Check out the style used here.

The drum has jingles like a tambourine and the player is using a thumb roll stick-slip technique to generate jingle-rolls. Interesting striking style, not one that I have come across before.

Also on bodhran TV

From Youtube Comments

QUOTE:
That's Gussie Russell on the concert flute, but I don't see any sign of Micho. The whistle player appears to be John Killourhy (also sitting behind Packie Russell in the 1973 clip), with his brother Paddy sitting in front of him on fiddle (so two pairs of brothers are playing together). This clip is the only one I've seen of thumb rolls being played on an old-style tambourine, though I've heard of it being done in West Clare too, in former times.

I can't help but notice the similarity with the style in this video. Thumb rolls notwithstanding. We talked about it here

Hey
this was the first thing I thought when I saw the Clare video. Really similar, and it only shows we need to learn more about the player in the video...pity no one can interview him and ask questions like: Who was your influence?
All the best
Rolf

Hi lads....
Great clip...
Heres a bit of info for ye on the Co.Clare Bodhran player...

He name was Marcus Walsh, (but pron. "Welsh", which is a west Clare thing!) from the small fishing village in west Clare named Quilty.

Its about 5-10mins drive from Miltown Malbay. The village is known here for its fishing and seaweed.

Marcus was from a small farming backround, and played bodhran in alot of local "House dances" from which my father knew him.

Its a fairly wild style alright, without much top-end!!:)
There are still a few oul fellas about in Co.Clare that still play this style belive it or not.
There was a great player and maker from Ennis Co Clare by the name of Carl McTadgh who played with his hand...Sadly he passed on a few years back...but was unreal to watch! Serious right hand on him!

All the best,
Seanie McGrath.
Its nice to put a name on a face.
