This link takes you to an example of how a cheap & nasty bodhran will sound.

I changed the title for the site's purposes to illustrate the sound that you don't want from your drum (apologies to the originator)

I also recently found out that the drums made by a well known maker beginning with W are now made in China. In my opinion it now represents a completely cynical misappropriation of the bodhran name. YMMV.

I just got it to work. Not that my ears are any more the richer for hearing that... :P YUK! I know mine is a cheap drum off e-bay and has nowhere near the sound of an O'Kane or any of the other manufacturers, but it sounds worlds better than that did (especially since I taped the head a little bit).
