Hi,
I am now the proud owner of a new seamus o'kane mark 5 bodhran(the one with the new
Tuning system).
I just thought it useful to open a thread to impart to all the joy it is bringing me.
i recieved it on saturday, and that evening had a small gig in my home town, which was it's first outing. The tuning system itself is both easy to use and produces an equality of tone that was previously unachievable with my old drum ( although i am not really comparing like with like as the old one has 2 skins ).
Initially it seems to me the superiority of this drum is coming from the skin and the stretching in the construction. The tuning mechanism itself is a little alien at present due to it exterior position, although i think that the aesthetics of the drum is minor compared to the overall sound you get, this being sublime with initial playings.
The lack of flexibility to adapt tensioning with an array of tuning points may be unattractive to some,
but the improvement in functionality would seem to me to help the majority of backers out there.
These are only my initial thoughts and as time passes i am sure there will be more to say.
B
