Hey
you can't be serious about the statistics. This is redicolous since a) there are far more O'Kanes than any other drum out there. Second: There are too many reasons to mention why people playing a drum of particular maker didn't even take part in the first place. I mean, you can't deduct anything from the statistics. Believe me, I am doing this as part of my job.
But more important:
Nice videos!
Thanks
Rolf
PS
Last year on Inis Oirr Christian gave his 1000s drum ever made in the last 5 years for the raffle, but this includes the lower end models as well.

Hey Rolf
no worries, no not terriby serious and yes quite possibly rediculous :)
The brackets around the word statistically were there to help indicate that the word was used simply to indicate a number reference. Maybe I could have picked a better word. If I were making an academic argument it would have looked very different.
The post was not deducing anything from the statistics, there are no statistics given just numbers - I was simply commenting out loud about instruments, makers and competitions plus the fact that Seamus seemed to have sewn it all up for 10 years or more - I was welcoming the fact that more makers being represented and I had expected to see more of Hedwitschaks drums at this level of competition.

Hey all,
Yea those were two of the vids I took over the weekend - sorry I didnt post them here but my internet connection went down just after I uploaded them to youtube...
Also (unfortunatley) my camera ran out of juice right before he competition finale, so I only got a few videos :(
There are another two promising ones I will have to upload..
And a festival blog if I get the time...
Cillian.

I've played nothing but my RWE since I received it from Rolf it produces exactly the sound for my style of playing, however if, and that's a very big IF, I were tempted into a "solo" exhibition I'd most likely opt for an O'Kane, I find the range is better able to cope with the pyrotechnics required for a "solo".

Hey
to be honest, I think all of the players and you and myself and many others, could do it on an O'Kane, a Darius, a Metloef and a Hedwitschak, a Quinlan and an Alfonso. All the rest is up to the player. And within the top drums you will find drums that have more and less range. (the less range ones are still very good, thats the difference!) I have seen O'Kanes that had more, but also some that had less range than some RWEs, Metloefs, Alfonsos etc..
I guess if it comes to that level of playing and particular needs, it depends a lot more on the individual drums from any particular maker than on the make itself.
I have RWEs here that speak more to me or less, but for other people trying them out it is often vice versa. IMHO this applies to all mentioned above...
All the best
Rolf
