Steam Bending

From bowiki

Steam bending requires lots of steam and a sealed box into which the wood is placed.

The wood receives a period of time in the box with the steam with the aim of loosening the fibres in the wood. When the wood is removed from the box it can be bent around a form or mandrel. The bending must take place within seconds of removing from the steam because the wood will quickly cool and stiffen into its new shape.
