Holding The Drum

The drum is normally played when sitting. In the case of a right handed player it will sit on the left knee with the frame (Shell)pointing directly ahead or slightly to the right, it is supported by the left hand inside the drum and held snugly against the front left side of the chest. The edge of the drum will ususlly find a resting place in the crook of your elbow.

This method is the same whether crossbars are employed or not, the use of a crossbars really is to facilitate Inside Hand pressure for tonal use or to hold the drum when standing. They are not necessary on a modern drum
